Florida A&M Has Suspended All Football Activities After A Rap Video Was Filmed In The Locker Room

Jun 29, 2023Jun 29, 2023

Florida A&M football coach Willie Simmons announced late Friday night he was suspending all football activities while an investigation is conducted into a rap video that was filmed inside the Rattlers' locker room. He saw the first second of that video and went to chain up the facility like Coach Carter.

I think the biggest shame in all this is that it's all happening over such a trash song. Whoever let the video be filmed in the locker room should absolutely be ashamed of how they represented FAMU, but because the video and song suck, not because of any pearl-clutching over university standards or whatever else.

This is a brilliant move by Coach Simmons, though. You get to please the higher-ups by saying you're taking this seriously — which I'm sure he actually is — and then you give the players a slap on the wrist and get the team fired up heading into fall camp when you tell them football is back on. Chess, not checkers.

The Rattlers open the season against Jackson State on September 3.
